Capri ist eine atemberaubende Naturschönheit im Golf von Neapel, deren verführerischen Reizen ihre zahlreichen Besucher schon seit Jahrtausenden erliegen. Das Licht taucht die Insel während des Tages in unterschiedliche Farben und verzaubert den Betrachter.

Ein Tagesausflug - wie im folgenden beschrieben - ist auch mit einem mittleren Budget durchführbar und lohnt sich auf jeden Fall.



Sofern man von Neapel mit dem Schiff anreist, sollte man nur bei Wellengang ein Schnellboot (Aliscafo, ca. 40 min) nehmen, ansonsten die Aussicht auf Neapel mit der gemütlicheren und ca. 50 % günstigeren Fähre (Traghetto, ca. 80 min) genießen. Capri ist autofrei und es verkehren nur Kleinbusse (1.30 Euro für die einfache Fahrt) und Taxis.

Schon die Einfahrt in den Hafen Marina Grande mit den pittoresken bunten Häuschen ist sehenswert. Im Hafen angekommen lässt nimmt man die Seilbahn (Funiculare), um zur Piazza Umberto (Piazzetta) zu gelangen. Der Bereich um die Piazzetta und die kleine Einkaufsstraße sind die teuerste und touristischste Gegend auf Capri.

Wer hier in einem Straßencafe die Schickeria beobachten möchte, zahlt für eine Cola 5 bis 8 Euro. Doch sobald man die Piazzetta in Richtung Via Botteghe verlässt trifft man nur noch wenige Touristen und es erschließen sich wunderschöne Ausblicke auf die hohen Felsen und das Meer. Immer weiter geradeaus dem hübschen Weg Via Matermania folgend gelangt man zu einem Restaurant mit dem Namen Le Grotelle. Man speist nur draußen unter Bäumen und hat einen wunderbaren Blick auf das Meer. Das Preisniveau ist normal. Bevor man sich hier niederlässt, sollte man ca. 100 Meter weiter gehen, um den Arco Naturale, einen oval geformten, unten offenen Felsen im Meer anzuschauen.

Nachdem man sich an den Spaghetti Vongole satt gegessen hat, geht man die Treppen beim Restaurant (viele! Für Gehbehindete nicht geeignet) herunter und kommt an der Grotta di Matromania vorbei, einer von den alten Römern veränderten Höhle. Weiter dem kleinen Weg über dem Meer folgend bieten sich dem Betrachter wieder wunderschöne Ausblicke.

Auf dem Rückweg, der Via Tragara folgend, sollte man einen Besuch in der Parfümerie Carthusia nicht vergessen, wo Parfüm aus Blüten hergestellt wird und die Giardini di Augusto (Park) besichtigen, von wo man einen schönen Blick auf Marina Piccola, die Felsen und die geschlossene Via Krupp (kleiner Serpentinenweg zum Meer) hat. Alle Artikel, auch den typischen Limoncello und Keramik, sollte man in Neapel kaufen, falls man Gelegenheit dazu hat. Dort sind sie wesentlich günstiger.

Beeindruckend ist der Sonnenuntergang auf Capri, wenn die meisten Touristen mit der Fähre die Insel verlassen und diese beginnt ihr anderes Gesicht zu zeigen. Deswegen lohnt es sich eine Nacht auf Capri zu verbringen. Empfehlenswert für eine Übernachtung mit kleinerem Budget ist der höher gelegene Ortsteil Anacapri.


 

Via Krupp
In 1900 the German magnate Krupp financed a street for travel by foot that joined the Quisisana, where he lived, to the Marina Piccola.
Built with admirable skill by the engineer Emilio Mayer, it has been called "the world's most beautiful road", thanks to the manner in which it hugs the rock and the appropriate use of local construction materials .

The Gardens of Augustus

These belonged to the villa of Friedrich Alfred Krupp, son of the founder of the great German steelworks, who took up residence in Capri towards the end of the last century.
Built on the ruins of ancient Roman structures, the gardens were donated by Krupp to the Town of Capri, which later named them for the Roman emperor. In a corner of the garden, a statue of Lenin by the sculptor Manzu was erected to commemorate his stay on the island.

Villa San Michele - Axel Munthe

The villa was built for the Swedish physician and writer Axel Munthe, author of the well-known novel The Story of San Michele". The construction involved transforming a simple country home and an old chapel dedicated to San Michele and originally built on exquisitely decorated ruins from the Augustan age that demonstrate the presence on that spot of a sumptuous residence.
The style of the imposing structure is very free, set in the middle of a large, well cared-for park. It is owned by the Swedish Munthe Foundation and is open to the public: many of the founder's possessions, including rustic and antique furniture, as well as countless archaeological artefacts, are preserved in a charming atmosphere.

Villa Jovis

The island's largest imperial villa, it was built for Tiberius at the beginning of the Ist century AD and discovered in the 1700's under the Bourbon ruler Charles.
The first exploration took place in 1827; the dig was expanded in 1932-35 by A. Maiuri who brought to light much of the original structure, which covers 7,000 sq. meters; the gardens of the villa must have originally covered the entire hill.
The structure, built to an uncommon height, consisted of a number of different floors terraced along the natural slope of the land, with the difference from the highest to the lowest point being 40 m.
